What is a Heat Detector? How Does It Work? It is an electronic device that detects the temperature in its environment and transmits it to the control panel via the communication line. According to the detection method, it is divided into two as “fixed heat detector” and “heat increase detector”.
Heat detectors are electronic devices that constantly monitor the temperature in their surroundings and sound an alarm when a certain temperature threshold is exceeded. They are used for early detection of dangerous situations such as fire. There are basically two main types of heat detectors: fixed heat detectors and heat rise detectors.
Importance of Use

- Rapid Alarm: Heat detectors immediately alarm when the temperature threshold is exceeded. This is critical for rapid fire detection and response.
- Smokeless Fires: Some fires do not produce smoke but still produce high temperatures. Smoke detectors cannot detect these types of fires, which is why heat detectors are important.

How Do They Work?
Heat detectors generally operate in two main types:
- Fixed Heat Detectors: There are 2 NTC (Heat effect resistors) inside. These NTCs have a certain resistance value depending on the ambient temperature. As the temperature in the environment increases, the resistance value decreases and more current passes through it. When a certain threshold value is exceeded, the heat detector transmits this to the control panel as alarm information. The reason why there are 2 NTCs instead of 1 is to make more accurate measurements and prevent false alarms.
- Heat Increase Detectors: It contains 2 NTC (heat acting resistors). However, the heat increase detector monitors the amount of heat increase in 1 minute coming from NTCs and perceives it as an alarm if it exceeds a certain amount of increase.
